Fast Forward to Queensland: Fog on Cape Gloucester 17Aug24.
Beautiful sunny days can sometimes have quite a different start here in North Queensland. What started off as a clear morning soon became one where fog was creeping over the hills and across the sea in a most amazing way.
Gloucester Ireland with her towering Mount Bertha started off clearly but was soon enveloped in the fog that crept across the world on this humid morning.
The show was incredible as things move very quickly and landmarks disappeared behind the mist.
Nature is wonderful.

A beautiful sunny light wind day, perfect for a cruise around the Whitsunday Islands to the north. Join me as I take a sail from Olden Island north of Airlie Beach around Point George, Saddleback Island into little Jonah Bay. The glassy Waters make it perfect to spy whales breaching in the distance and also mother and calf. this must definitely be a nursery for whales. #boating #cruise #cruisin...

A day of undoing the work of the last rainy days, appreciating the surroundings and going ashore in my private beach. This idyllic setting in the east part of Cape Gloucester, Queensland is a wonderful escape. No roads. The only way in is by boat, so I feel priceless to be one of the few who makes it here to enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings. #boating #cruise #cruising #yacht #yachtlife #...

The sun was back, the rain had cleared and the wind just dropped. A bluebird day for a sail. Today is a bit of a tour of some of the northern islands of the Whitsunday Island Group. Come aboard as we visit Double Cone Island, Armit Island, Gumbrel Island and Olden Island. White coral beaches, turquoise waters, heaven. I ended up finding a lovely secluded beach to spend a couple of nights. No pe...

Bidding farewell to my brother at Airlie Beach I left the Coral Sea Marina to find shelter to the north in Woodwark Bay. The rain came down and the wind was strong as I headed out into Pioneer Bay. It was Airlie Race Week and I had to make sure I was clear of their course as I skirted the coast. Woodwark Bay was every bit the shelter I sought. The next two days were just about hunkering down. #...

Deciding we would take a chance and see if we could get an extra night at Airlie Beach, we left Nara Inlet to cross the Waters to the mainland which were choppy and still very windy. With reefed sails we crossed and bounced our way through the waves to arrive off the coast of Airlie Beach where we were treated to some antics by a calf humpback whale. Amazing! At first we were disappointed in no...

Today we left Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island in Queensland's Whitsunday Islands. Our aim was to go to Stonehaven on the West coast of Hook Island which looked like a nice shelter from the strong southerlies blowing. On the way we passed the popular Hayman Island resort. By the end of the day, we found ourselves in Nara Inlet on the south coast of Hook Island. Come join us to find out why. #boa...

Join us as we have an amazing day cruising and exploring places in Queensland's Whitsunday islands. Today was a full day which started with a bush walk up to the lookout over Hill Creek and Whitehaven Beach. After being buffeted by winds and waves for a few days now at Thomas Island, I thought it was time to do something different. on some good advice I heard that Gulnare Inlet was one of the best anchorages in the Whitsundays. Located on the southern coast of Whitsunday Island it was also nice and close to Hamilton Island where I need to be on the 4th of August. Under a half jib I left Shaw Island...

Well, I was all set to enjoy my little private Beach but the low tide in the morning showed me that it was full of rocks at the bottom. Knowing that strong winds were coming, I decided that I needed better shelter. As the morning progressed I could see that the wind was already building. The strong were coming to an end, it was time to continue the journey North. Today's run would be from Mackay to Brampton/Carlisle Islands. Only around 5 hours. Peter, with respect to those black boulders at the beach, these are indeed volcanic. About 5 kilometres inland from Bargara there is a rise in the landscape known as The Hummock. This is the remnant of an old volcano that deposited lava out to the coast all the way from Elliott Heads in the south and up to Burnett Heads in the north. The boulders are the result of erosion of that lava over time. Peter F.

Great video. Brings back memories of diving this area. We always dived during slack water...it was the time when the levels inside and outside the heads are equal. With permission we could actually dive in the shipping channel. Thanks for a very informative video.

Thanks Gary. So were you diving on wrecks, as there seem to be plenty on this treacherous coast?

@@Dawnraider Hi Peter. Yes, many sailing ships came to grief in this area. We mainly dived the wrecks outside the bay where there were no current issues. Just outside the heads is the ship's graveyard where obsolete vessels were scuttled...always a fascinating dive.

Been many times and barely seen a ferry. You really lucked in on some heavy traffic. Well done.

We sure did. We could see the car carrier on the horizon and the bulk carrier through the mist leaving Port Melbourne, so waited it out.
